Cover picture: Thymus lobes with attached mesenchyme were removed from 12-d mouse embryos. The mesenchyme was separated from the epithelial rudiments and trypsinized to yield a cell suspension. These mesenchymal cells were labelled with the dye CFSE, reassociated with the epithelial lobes, and cultured for 2 d. Here, mesenchymal cells (green) have migrated into the epithelial primordium (blue). Lymphoid cells are CD45+ (red). The migration of mesenchymal cells into the thymus raises the possibility that they interact directly with lymphoid cells.
