Publication Fees and Choices
Our simple publication fees and choices ensure that Rockefeller University Press is able to offer a home to all manuscripts that meet the criteria of novelty, significance, and scientific rigor. Our standard flat fee includes fast online publication, deposit in PubMed Central (PMC), archive in LOCKSS/CLOCKSS and Portico, and perpetual open access 6 months after publication. Authors may also elect an Immediate Open Access option.
Authors may select from the following:
$2,000 - flat fee includes all publication charges and open access 6 months after publication under CC-BY-NC-SA license.
$5,000 - Immediate Open Access flat fee includes all publication charges and open access upon publication under CC-BY license. Articles are released on PMC upon issue publication. For articles submitted after December 31, 2020, the Immediate Open Access fee will be $5,300.
Wellcome or COAF funding recipients please note: this option must be chosen if you intend to have Wellcome/COAF cover your open access fees.
Authors will be invoiced for publication or open access fees after publication of their article. Open access is verified prior to invoicing. RUP is unable to process cancellations, refunds, or returns of open-access fees after publication.
Corresponding authors at UK-based institutions: please check with your librarian to see if your fees are covered under RUP’s Jisc agreement. Articles with primary corresponding authors at participating institutions will be published as Immediate Open Access with no fees to the authors.
Publishing Discount for Society of General Physiologists Members. The Society of General Physiologists and Journal of General Physiology have a new pilot partnership to offer a 25% discount on the $2,000 JGP publications fee to all SGP members—a savings of $500. To enable the discount, active members can use a promotional code during invoicing. To receive a promotional code, members must contact SGP. Learn more about SGP membership here: https://www.sgpweb.org/Membership.
Inability to pay the $2,000 fee will not affect the publication of your manuscript. If you are experiencing financial hardship please contact us for more information at firstname.lastname@example.org or (212) 327-7938.
