JCB, JEM, and JGP have secured Transformative Journal status from cOAlition S. Your institution or funder may cover your $5,300 Open Access fees through December 31, 2024.

cOAlition S Rights Retention Strategy: RUP authors retain copyright and may self-archive any or all versions of their manuscript or the published article in a freely accessible institutional or funder repository.  While some cOAlition S funders will cover the $5,300 Open Access fee, none will cover the standard option for Open Access 6 months after publication.

Corresponding authors at institutions in Read-and-Publish agreements: Your institution may participate in an agreement that allows for unlimited publishing with no author fees. We have Read-and-Publish agreements in place with IReL in the Republic of Ireland, with Jisc in the United Kingdom, with Max Planck in Germany, and with VIVA in the United States, along with individual libraries who are participating. Please check our Read-and-Publish portal to see if you can publish an unlimited number of articles with no author fees through your institution's library.

Lower- and middle-income countries: To address equity in Open Access publishing and promote important global research, publication fees for Open Access under CC-BY license in JCB, JEM, and JGP are automatically waived for authors from lower- and middle-income countries identified by the Research4Life organizations HINARI, AGORA, and OARE. Primary corresponding authors based in eligible countries may now publish Open Access under a CC-BY license without publication fees.
