Developmental regulation of Lck targeting to the cell membrane in T cells. Lck is localized in intracellular compartments in naive CD8+ cytotoxic T cells (top). In contrast, in tetramer-sorted effector (middle) or memory (bottom) T cells generated in vivo, Lck is targeted to the cell membrane. This redistribution of Lck may optimize the TCR-signaling machinery in effector and memory T cells. Lck staining is shown in green, and nuclear staining is shown in red.
