JCB65: Mitochondria
In the sixth collection celebrating our 65th anniversary, we revisit historical papers describing the metabolic functions of mitochondria such as initial studies demonstrating that the outer mitochondrial membrane houses the electron transport chain and consists of cytochrome enzymes. We also explore early studies that shaped the mitochondria dynamics field, including the identification of Fzo1 as a central fusion component in yeast, the characterization of the Mfn1/2-/- mice as well as Drp1-/- mice. We also include foundational studies exploring the spatial organization of mitochondrial inner membranes as well as studies of mitochondria stress responses, motility, and mitochondrial contacts with other organelles. If we missed your favorite JCB study, tweet to @JCellBiol using the hashtag #JCB65, or email us at [email protected]. Find more 65th anniversary collections or browse our From the Archive series.
