Fluorescent glutamate reporter mouse line reveals slow stochastic release from rod photoreceptor cells
The authors developed mice that selectively express the fluorescent glutamate reporter iGluSnFR3 in rod photoreceptor cells. By imaging vesicle release, they found rods maintain slow, stochastic release at 20–40 vesicles/s/ribbon under mesopic and photopic conditions, supporting reliable transmission of light responses over a wide range of backgrounds.
Combined Nav1.7–Nav1.8 channel abrogation: Supralinear suppression of excitability in a subpopulation of peripheral sensory neurons
Vasylyev, Tyagi et al. show that Nav1.7 and Nav1.8 sodium channels work cooperatively to control sensory-neuron excitability. Combined partial suppression raises the firing threshold more than expected from either channel alone, but responses vary across neurons, revealing both the potential and limits of dual-channel targeting for pain treatment.
