Teresa Giraldez Named JGP Associate Editor

Journal of General Physiology (JGP) welcomed Teresa Giraldez as an Associate Editor in September 2025. Dr. Giraldez is a professor at the Universidad de La Laguna in Tenerife, Spain. Her research centers on the structure, function, and regulation of ion channels—proteins that enable ions to cross the cell membrane, thus modulating neuronal and cellular excitability.

“We are delighted to have Dr. Giraldez join our editorial team” JGP Editor-in-Chief David Eisner says. “Her innovative research on ion channels and her deep mechanistic insights into channelopathies and cellular excitability will be an asset to the JGP community. Her breadth of expertise and multidisciplinary approach make her an ideal fit for our mission.”

Using tools that span genetics, molecular biology, electrophysiology, and advanced imaging techniques, the Giraldez Lab investigates the molecular basis of neurological diseases linked to ion channel dysfunction. She recently published a study in JGP (August 5, 2025), “GRIN2B disease-associated mutations disrupt the function of BK channels and NMDA receptor signaling nanodomains”. Dr. Giraldez earned her PhD in Biochemistry and Biophysics, as well as her BSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, from Universidad de Oviedo in Asturias, Spain.

“I’m honored to be joining the editorial team at JGP” Dr. Giraldez says. “As a researcher, I have long appreciated the journal’s dedication to rigorous and quantitative biophysical science. I’m excited to contribute to shaping its future and supporting its strong community of authors and readers.”

Dr. Giraldez joins Editor-in-Chief David Eisner and a team of Associate Editors including Henk Granzier, Chris Lingle, Joseph Mindell, Eduardo Ríos, Jeanne Nerbonne, and Crina Nimigean, as well as Consulting Editor Olaf S. Andersen. Learn more about the editors.
