Preparing Hi-Res PDF for Source Data Image Files

All source data images should be presented as one PDF per figure. Each should be at least 300 dpi and saved in a lossless format. Instructions are provided for Illustrator and PowerPoint.

Photoshop

To create a PDF, choose "Save as" and from there "Save as type: Photoshop PDF". An info box may appear saying "The settings you choose in the Save Adobe PDF dialog can override your current settings in the Save As dialog box." It is fine to Click "OK". You can also choose "Don't show again" in the lower left.

Create the following new Adobe PDF Preset from the settings in the "Save Adobe PDF" box that appears:

First, select [High Quality Print] from the default options.

From the options on the left, choose "Compression"; under "Options", select "Do Not Downsample" and for "Compression" choose "None".

The name of the preset should now have "(Modified)" added to it.

You can save this preset for future use by clicking "Save Preset" in the lower left corner. It will save as a new ".joboption" for use in all Adobe Creative Suite products. Note that this preset should not be used from within Illustrator. Please see our Illustrator-specific instructions.
