The JGP is very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Elizabeth M. Adler as its new executive editor.
Liz received her bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from Antioch College and her PhD in physiology from the University of Pennsylvania, and she completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Toronto and at Harvard University. Liz then joined the faculty at Williams College, where she taught neuroscience and biology, and supervised many student research projects. Her research focused on synaptic transmission, synaptic plasticity, and modulation of neuronal gene expression. Areas of special interest included the effects of extracellular potassium on short-term synaptic plasticity and the actions of anti-epileptic drugs, the calcium microenvironment of neurotransmitter release sites, and the effects of calcium and zinc on neuropeptide gene expression. In 2002, Liz took a position at Science Signaling (formerly Science’s STKE). In this role she handled more than 400 research articles and contributed numerous editorial commentaries. While she was at Williams College, Liz was diagnosed with lymphoma. Successfully confronting this major personal challenge, she authored an invaluable book, Living with Lymphoma, which won an American Medical Writers Association Medical Book Award in 2006.
Liz’s broad knowledge of physiology and rich experience in scientific publishing makes her an ideal person for the position of JGP executive editor. In this role, Liz will be a vibrant interface with the physiology community, attending research meetings, visiting research institutions, recruiting authors, generating ideas for reviews and perspectives, and contributing regular columns of her own on science of interest to the JGP readership. During the coming year, Liz will personally contact several JGP authors and visit many of you to get your suggestions for expanding and enhancing the Journal.
Please join me in welcoming Liz to the JGP and Rockefeller University Press family!
