2025 Nobel Prize Collection
This year’s Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Mary E. Brunkow, Frederick J. Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi for their discoveries concerning peripheral immune tolerance. Their groundbreaking discoveries of regulatory T (Treg) cells, a subset of T cells indispensible for maintaining immunological self-tolerance and preventing autoimmunity, and Foxp3, the master regulator of Treg cells, have fundamentally advanced our understanding of peripheral immune regulation and established the foundation for therapeutic strategies that harness or target Treg cells to treat inflammatory diseases and enhance anti-tumor immunity. We celebrate their winning of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2025 with a special collection highlighting important JEM studies by Shimon Sakaguchi on Treg cells.
