(A–G) mScarlet KIF2A (A); untagged KIF2A (B); mCherry-MCAK (C); iE5 (D); (D1)2 (E); spastin (F); and mGFP-spastin (G). mCherry-tagged proteins migrate as double bands, as previously published (Hentrich and Surrey, 2010; Roostalu et al., 2018), possibly associated with different maturation states of mCherry. mScarlet, derived from mCherry (Bindels et al., 2017), causes a similar migration pattern.
