An integrative model for the spatial regulation of Gwl. Gwl is actively imported in the nucleus in interphase (1). In early prophase, cyclin B–Cdk1 activates Gwl in the nucleus (2). After phosphorylation of Gwl in its central region by Polo (3), and possibly by cyclin B–Cdk1 (2), Gwl then relocalizes to the cytoplasm before NEBD (4). Gwl is bound by 14-3-3ε, which helps its retention in the cytoplasm (5), where Gwl can inactivate PP2A-Tws to promote orderly mitotic entry (6). See text for details.
