A voltage clamp of the isolated calcium system to −3 mV leads, after decaying oscillations, to a steady state in which average cytosolic calcium is in equilibrium with NCX. This steady state still consists of high amplitude chaotic calcium release events that persist indefinitely and have a partial periodicity.
