The dashed line is the best fit obtained by minimization of the sum of squares of residuals for the constrained five-state gating polarity model. The parameter values are the same as in Table S2, except for K3 and K4. For HHHEK, K3 and K4 are 2.09 and 3.29, while for HHHEA, K3 and K4, are 2.30 and 3.12, respectively. The K3 and K4 were allowed to float freely to minimize the sum of residuals.
