The hydrolase of ABHD16A facilitates membrane lipid remodeling by the conversion of PS to lyso-PS, while the acyltransferase domain of this protein facilitates assembly of the mitochondrial fission (and fusion) machinery (Nguyen and Voeltz, 2022). Patches of the lipid CL activate DRP1 (Bustillo-Zabalbeitia et al., 2014), which is assembled at mitochondrial membrane constriction sites using FIS1, MFF, MiD49 and MiD51.
