Three Na transporters play key roles in cardiac physiology and pathology, Na/K pumps, Na/Ca exchangers, and NHEs. All three appear to be importantly regulated by inactivation reactions that depend on ion binding to transport sites, Na in the case of Na/Ca exchangers and Na/K pumps and possibly both Na and protons in the case of NHEs.
