Cation binding sites in TRPV5 identified by PENSA. 3-D density maxima of Ca2+ cations within 7 Å of the protein was analyzed to identify 12 cation binding sites shown as pseudo-atoms (left). This analysis identified binding sites A (red), B (orange), and C (yellow) and several other “recruitment sites” (purple). The location of these recruitment sites (purple) help to attract cations and funnel them toward the pore entrance (top right and top left).
