The copy number of proteins in cells can be determined by quantitative proteomics approaches. Several studies have reported the abundance of ZDHHC enzymes and acyl protein thioesterases (see Table S1). Here, we show the abundance reported by the latest of these studies (Bekker-Jensen et al., 2017), which, probably due to the improvement of the mass spectrometry sensitivity, provides quantification for the highest number of these enzymes. In a number of studies, ZDHHC enzymes are measured but their abundance was considered below what was quantifiable, i.e., <700 to 1,000 copies per cell.
