Mutations in DSB repair genes cause a delay in γ-H2AV appearance as a result of the activation of the pachytene checkpoint (Joyce and McKim, 2009).

The foci number is an estimate based on fluorescent intensity (see Materials and methods) in spn-A1 and tefu8 mutants in which the foci could not be counted because of nearly ubiquitous threadlike staining.
