Artificial lymphoid organs could help predict efficacy of booster vaccines
Researchers at the Institut Pasteur in France have developed artificial “lymphoid organ-chips” that recreate much of the human immune system’s response to booster vaccines. The technology, described in an article to be published September 6 in the Journal of Experimental Medicine (JEM), could potentially be used to evaluate the likely effectiveness of new protein and mRNA-based booster vaccines for COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. Exploring Huntington’s disease, researchers discover that protein aggregates poke holes in nuclear membrane
Researchers at Utrecht University in the Netherlands have identified a new way in which the toxic protein aggregates associated with Huntington’s disease may damage nerve cells and cause them to die. The study, to be published August 16 in the Journal of Cell Biology (JCB), suggests that the aggregates can poke holes in the membrane that separates the nucleus from the rest of the cell, damaging the DNA inside the nucleus and changing the activity of neuronal genes. Embargo policy
Rockefeller University Press (RUP) makes embargoed material available to eligible journalists and public information officers for research articles appearing in its three journals: Journal of Cell Biology (JCB), Journal of Experimental Medicine (JEM), and Journal of General Physiology (JGP). Eligible individuals must agree to follow the terms of the RUP embargo policy:
- Stories or reports on research articles may not be published or placed in the public domain until 10:00 a.m. US Eastern Time on the day of publication. Precise embargo dates and times are clearly marked on all advance material.
