JGP Authors Decide: No Fee or Low Fee

Journal of General Physiology is reducing its publication fees for all authors while offering the same great benefits and choices. Authors of articles submitted in 2023 can select from the following options:

Pay no fee: Open Access 6 months after publication under a CC-BY-NC-SA license (green). This includes deposit in PubMed Central (PMC) under a 6-month embargo, archive in LOCKSS/CLOCKSS and Portico, and promotion to the scientific community.

Pay a $2,000 fee: Immediate Open Access under a CC-BY license (gold). This includes deposit in PubMed Central (PMC) for immediate release, archive in LOCKSS/CLOCKSS and Portico, and promotion to the scientific community. Some funders and institutions pay this fee: see Read-and-Publish Agreements with RUP Journals and our Transformative Journal status announcement. The new fee has been reduced from $5,300.

Authors retain copyright and may self-archive in a freely accessible institutional or funder repository under both options.

These fees apply for manuscripts submitted to JGP on or after January 1, 2023.

Why submit your research to JGP?

Community Driven: Editorial decisions on research manuscripts are made through collaborative consultation between the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors, all of whom are active scientists.

Fair and Fast: An initial decision is provided in less than 2 days. First round of peer review is completed in 29 days. We limit rounds of revision, and we strive to provide clear, detailed decisions that illustrate what is expected in the revisions. Articles appear online 2 days after author proofs are returned.

Welcome Transfers: Submissions that include reviewer comments from another journal are welcome. You may also request manuscript transfer between Rockefeller University Press journals, and we can confidentially send reviewer reports and—with the reviewer’s permission—identities to another journal beyond RUP.

Format Neutral: You may submit your papers in ANY format.
