The effects on Valonia of guaiacol and hexylresorcinol are similar but the latter is more effective.
Both substances lower or abolish the potassium effect; i.e., the ability of the cell to distinguish electrically between Na+ and K+.
Both substances change the order of mobilities so that vCl > uNa becomes uNa > vCl or uNa = vCl.
