Cellular localization of nerve growth factor (NGF) mRNA in newly formed epithelium at the edge of the wound and the granulation tissue produced in the wound space. Wounded skin sections from male SJL/J mice 3 d after cutaneous wounding were hybridized with the digoxigenin-labeled oligonucleotide probe. Basal cells of the epidermis and fibroblasts in the granulation tissue show positive reaction for mRNA expression of NGF. See related article in this issue by Matsuda et al., pp. 297–306.
