Diminished expression of the phosphotyrosine phosphatase, SHP-1, in tonsillar germinal center B cells. Mantle zone B cells are stained green by FITC-conjugated anti–SHP-1, and germinal center B cells are stained red by TRITIC-conjugated anti–CD38. In this computer generated superimposition of the two images, no cells are stained yellow, indicating that CD38-positive cells lack detectable SHP-1.
